Don't know what to tell ya people. Some say it was the fire. Some way it wasn't. We're back up. If we hear anything official, we'll tell you, but frankly it was as much a surprise to the mods as to the rest of you.

The homepage was opening all right, only the forum was not opening, so i guess it was a database problem:)

Good to see DP back and running:D

I guess that was because the problem was with the database server, not the main one.

I think it was a five minute problem that turned into a 20 hour problem because of all the DP members continually refreshing the page to see if access had been restored yet. :D

I think that Dp host is the planet because they had a

This evening at 4:55 in our H1 data center, electrical gear shorted, creating an
explosion and fire that knocked down three walls surrounding our electrical equipment
room Thankfully, no one was injured. In addition, no customer servers were damaged
    or lost.

But it was nice that they are back it was sad with out DP.

DP is not hosted in Houston Texas... Also, the severs were never down. This was a data base issue with VB....

The Planet NEVER caught on fire. They just shut down some major servers last night so it will create a buzz the next day. It was link bait!

And a good one at that.

Actually there was a short in an electrical conduit which caused a transformer to overload. Unlike smaller data centers The Planet no doubt has their transformers on site, and likely in the building. There is liquid in those transformers which is used for cooling. One of them exploded, the likely result of the boiling of that liquid, which can create hydrogen gas, which is likely where the fire erupted from.

While they have generators, they were not allowed to run them, per the fire dept, which is pretty standard procedure when there is a transformer explosion and electrical fire.

I highly doubt The Planet or anyone else in this business would make something like this up.

The question everyone should really be asking is why did it happen. There are oodles of stories all over the net, on uTube, and in various hosting mags this month talking about how The Planet has been taking measures to cut electric costs. Hopefully corners were not cut. It could just be a total freak accident.

Either way, I am not sure how this relates to DP..
