I dont like to say this about your idea but
    Just forget it:
    Reasons:
1- What you/your -users- would bookmark in it? (Some things posted in forums? , Selling offers? , etc...)
2- Webmasters are busy for doing such thing
3- ALL if not MOST visitors/traffic would be from webmasters which will lead to in begging to increase your traffic , but after everyone know that all are the same and seeking for free advertising they would forget the idea , because no one is digging and thinking of a way to dig their
4,5,6 .... (you can find the other reasons yourself)

I'm not talking about Social Bookmarks... This is about Social networks!
Webmaster can create their own communities which will bring them a loads of traffic and also they can promote their products easily within their community.. etc. etc..

    Potential value it could add:

    1. Better Profiles: Users can have custom profiles that promote their products. Within that profile you can view the person's blogs, photo galleries, videos, links, or any other infomormation related to the product/service.

    2. Blogs: Everyone who wanted to start a blog could do so right on this site. That would help get traffic to DP.

    3. Media: Adding photos or videos can help you market yourself or your products better.

    4. Chat: if you need to chat with someone in real time rather than on a forum, you could do that.

    5. Article Manager: you can write articles and submit them to DP which would help DP's exposure.

    6. Event Calendar: People could add events to the calendar to promote something.

    7. Music: Upload music that you listen to and share with other DP members. Music is a good way to connect with other people.

    8. Classifieds: There can be a classifieds section of DP for people to post their "for sale" items.

Yes, I am in the social networking business. :)

if DP becomes another social network sie, i'll quit and i'll have no where else to log in anymore.
i'm over with all the SNs and thus I am spending time on DP for months now..

plus i think its better off the way it is as a forum

If it's not broken don't fix it.. I think the current platform is outstanding.

I prefer a discussion forum. DP is the best webmaster forum out there IMHO. All a social network will attract is tons of spammers. :(

It would take a lot of work, but would never grow teh same way. It's a social network, not a community :)

I think a webmaster social network is one thing that we dont see yet! There are tons of webmaster forums, freelance websites, etc. LinkedIn is very successful!

I think it would work but you wont want to use the same features that regular social network does.

-Webmasters will not be interested in uploading and sharring their photos or videos.
    - Webmaster will probably want everything nice and clean meaning no crazy layout features or even features allowing you to change your profile look etc.

Offering webmaster tools would be a good thing..i have many other ideas and i have actually been thinking about creating a webmaster social network but started out with a regular social network first.

If you are interested in teaming up and building a new social network for webmasters only please PM me.

I don't belong to any social networks, and that would not change if DP were to make the calamitous change to a social network. For me, that would effectively remove the "professional" nature of this forum.

Why this thread moved to Suggestions & Feedback section?
I'm not asking about changing DP to a Social network.
i asked whether a social network like DP will be a success!
Please read my first question and move it back to general Business section!

An expanded profile would be pretty nifty. I remember having that on another board before, I think it was called zoom.... ?

Just use facebook.com and create a digitalpoint group (I think there might already be one).
