Good sized download. They seemed to have thrown everything into the download. My question is, which part of this download should I use? Thank you.
Upload everything. And into the folders they specify. The install will walk you through the rest, including what folders to chmod to 777 etc
Yep, the install is easy, upload everything to your server, then go to yourdomain.com/install.php and it'll tell you what to CHMOD, also create a filr called configuration.php and add this to the home directoty and CHMOD to 777 as this never seems to be included.
With my installation, I had to make one as Joomla couldn't write it - but, they do think of everything, Joomla diplays the configuration.php text for cutting and pasting
Never on my installs, though it may well be a server issue. I just create my own and upload it before I install now and it writes to it automatically.
And after the install, the fun starts. So far I have been unable to convince myself the results would be worth climbing the learning curve; but maybe I don't have the right application in mind.
No the results are well worth it. If you're not comfortable at first just put up a dummy site to mess around with. Joomla is as basic or as powerful as you want to make it. It was the first CMS I tried and I'm yet to find one that doesn't feel like it's let me down after the functionality of Mambo/Joomla.
I would suggest not even playing with it on a remote server. Download XAMPP for Windows from apachefriends.org and run it all locally. That way, it's just easier to play with and it doesn't matter if it screws up as much...
MattUK: does your source have configuration.php-dist? sounds like you just don't have write permissions. TwistMyArm: don't download xampp for joomla. xampp IS great but JSAS is better & more useful for joomla.
xampp is definitely a top notch setup for developers - JSAS is just so nice to use with joomla though.. 3 text boxes, click once, click install, hit ok. run through joomla setup & done..
