Time to calm down, it was only a suggestion.

I would leave your featured links, I would have no problem submitting to a 2Nd Category.

    Thanks Brian

    Ouch..

I'll also add my thought so I can get a higher post count :). If you listed your featured links are paid only one time and the premanent the you should stick to that. If you decided to up your price then all new links will pay the new price. If I paid for a featured spot and then you downgraded me I would be pretty mad.

Perhaps a different point of view...

Seems to me the folks that purchased featured listings early on were risking their money that your directory would be around for a while and they would eventually recoup their investment.

Now that you directory has grown and is succesful you are going to tell these folks thank you for helping me grow by either demanding more money for them to retain their position or downgrade them?

Without those early risk takers, your directory would not be what it is today.

Create some new categories or new advertising strategies and continue to honor the risk and investment of those who gave you their money when you had no PR.

I think no one gave me any money when my directory was like pr 0 , wait i started with pr1 or pr 2, so bad example :D.

But yaa not fair to those who already paid, but i think lifetime one should consider as the longest possible time their link can remain active, not like really lifetime.... With that thought in mind one should submit their links.

@ malcom , whats wrong with me quoting you ? Alright alright will not; happy :) . Now smile plz.

If featured listings were sold as permanent then I would never downgrade them, I think this goes without saying. I would create more categories and move some regular links to those, then I would get some good backlinks to the new pages ready for the next PR update.

There are just two more spots for featured listings here, maybe I should raise the price...

    Is it OK?

    Legally?
It's my best guess that by accepting a payment you entered into a legally binding contract.

I'm also guessing that you may not have had exceptions noted at the time you entered into this contract to relieve you of future obligations?

    Morally?
Are you morally obligated to honor your agreement? Only you can answer that.

So I ask you; is it OK?

Serg: If i pay for a featured ! than i should get a featured ...

you can move it around as i believe its ok to do so to maintain the quality of directory, but not just because that guy paid 4.95 for featured and not 44.95 ...

remember the place your site got is only because of those users who submit in the beginning when it was PR 0 and those people submitted featured !!!

you can't turn your back on them ... surely i wouldn't ... it is just cutting your hand with the other hand ... and slammin the other in the door.

    think again

I had a similar problem and you can read about what I did here, I think I was able to do the right thing by everyone involved. What you are proposing would not be fair, especially when you can do something similar to what I did and it would work out much better for your customers.

If featured listings are perm, they should remain that way and in the same category they were initially listed. You can add a new category like malcolm suggested where new submissions can be moved to. btw, i did notice my listings moved in realwd, i personally don't mind as it beats being deleted altogether. ;)

I agree that permanent featured listings should remain permanently. There have been some good suggestions for you here, though, that I think will help. You might also be able to buy a MOD from Rob that better handles featured listings. I'm not sure if it is for sell (yet?) to the general public, though.

When you are making a directory, be sure How higher will it reach..And set prices according to that

    You cannot downgrade them..

Either give 1 year featured links, raise featured links number or create a new category :)
