Do search engines prefer dot coms to dot bizzes? I don't recall one ever coming up in a search. I have a client with a dot biz and he must be so low that he isn't even ranked.
I don't think the ending has much difference, for instance I have a dot org that does very well over the same keyword dot com and they are similar sites. I think the only advantage to dot com is the type ins - people are unlikely to type in anything else.
Search engines don`t prefer any ending except for .gov as far as I know. The possible reason why you don`t see many .biz is that .com`s outnumber them by far.
I personally think it's the fact the "Dot Com" is the most known ending and it's just more effective for people to remember around a catchy name.
I tend to agree with this, but if .edu is treated more favourably (which I believe it is) then I think you would have to include other academic tlds such as .ac.uk etc T
I dont think there are any lists as preference ever on any search engine. If any please show the exact proof. If not please dont spread rumours. Just my opinion. Prawin
I don't think top level domains make much difference, unless you're performing regional searches (e.g. only UK results), and even if they do it's likely to be a small factor compared to content and incoming links. The only problem I see with .biz is that they seem to be used by spammers and duplicate content sites, so perhaps that is why they generally appear quite low in search engine rankings.
I don't believe that the TLD(top level domain) .biz affects SE rankings by themselves, however, there seem to be a number sites with .biz that SEs tend to rank poorly. Your friend should be very carefull about the quality of the site that he is running. .biz may me a flag for SEs to lookout for duplicate content and the like. Personally I will be avoiding the .biz domains simply because of low quality and spam perception that is out there. Some users may block that TLD or simply subconsioully expect that it won't be a legit site.
Google has stated in the past (can't find the link right now) that top level domain extensions do not effect SERPs at all. You probably notice .edu and .gov sites ranking well because they tend to be authority sites, with no spammy techniques, which have been online for years and who attract links by being the authority site on a particular subject. I don't believe for a second that a domain would get a SERP boost because of it's TLD extension. I also think that you'll not find many large .biz sites in the search results is because it's a reletively new TLD, and a lot of normal internet users are not familiar with it. This alone means that having a .com address over a .biz is preferential.
