Dorks trying to sell their domains for millions on eBay

I was researching domains on eBay to see what they were going for. First I searched completed listings and found several domains listed at $21 million. None of them sold. The seller had the word "Haiti" in his name. Next I searched active listings and found several starting at $1 million. I put them in my watch list so I could check on them later and see if they sold. None of them sold, and a few were relisted for 30 days. I emailed one seller, who had the word "Uruguay" in his name, asking him:

"I was wondering why you think your domain is worth a million dollars."

    He replied:

"Because it goes with all my love sticked to it. Would you like to make an offer?"

Nothing about an appraisal, pagerank, traffic, etc. There is nothing in the description of the item to convince me either that this domain is worth a million dollars. I mean, I think it's great if people can sell their domains for a million dollars, and I have heard that it HAS happened - for REALLY GOOD DOMAINS. But you have to be able to convince someone you have a really good domain, and this guy just isn't doing it.

The only thing that I can think of, is that people from certain countries must really think that Americans are stupid and will pay a million dollars for just any domain.

It's interesting trend, some ppl list their domain names prices randomly and hope for some random buyer most liley American, that he will be paying a big amount of money for a name or at least make an offer. I don't want to ask for what domain names, because most of the time those names do not even worth a registration fee.

This is an interesting idea. I don't know why someone would believe their domain is worth millions

Umm... why would you think the sellers themselves aren't Americans? They can easily use a nickname and put whatever country name they fancy in them. I'll agree, though, those types of sales are ridiculous.

I guess you have more chance of making a million dollars like this than buying a lottery ticket.

Each domain name costs as much as real buyer is ready to pay for that domain name. They can claim it costs a billion. That is their right

They list em for those rediculous prices because stupid ebay only charges around 50 cents per listing! Over priced auctions and the fact that there are no subcatagories mess up the whole domain catagory. Please email them suggesting a change. They will listen if enough people email them.

It sounds like they are trying a pseudo-psychological approach. THEY list the domain for millions so when YOU make an offer, you will offer MORE than you normally would (because, of course, they are expecting a big number... even if it's nowhere near the millions they are asking).

Personally, I don't do business with people who are unethical. There are plenty of good domain names available for just $7.95 (or so) a year. Why spend more?

All I think is just for a fake marketing of the site. Except one domain which is poker.org none of the domains have really been sold for so much money.

A domain is worth what people pay to get it, whatever the rest of the world may think. People are free to believe what they want. I don't mind about people asking any whatever price for what they have and that I want. If I cannot pay what they eventually ask, I don't buy. And I won't blame who has the funds to get it. Talking about value, underpricing and overpricing requires comparison to some standard. And standards are limited in time, place, variables, ... Nothing scientific, just a choice of used parameters. I see here domainers complaining not only because they don't get what they want, but also because other people do or at least try to. A rather emotional than business mindset.

Even in Flippa you also need to have a good rank (PR, Visitor stat, Rank, etc.)

But hey... it's sure very funny how people look and appraise high for their own domain without considering those techies stuff. Hope they could make a killer selling with those domain name.

What change do you want me to suggest to ebay? A change on the listing fees?
