    Anyone played it yet?
I can already feel the corrupting influence of the extreme violence starting to affect me ;)

Haven't played it yet, but I'll probably get it when the Mac OS X version comes out. I mostly want to play with the level designer and stuff. :)

The nicest thing about Doom 3, is games in the next few years will start looking really awesome as companies start licensing the engine.

Been pretty cool so far but I haven't played through much of it yet. They even have ads on Mars!

Ive played doom since the first shareware version came out and this is the best 1st person game i have played yet.
Shawn you're right about the engine because this and the halflife 2 (out in over a month) engine are going to bring us into the next generation of computer gaming.
    w00p bring it on

I got a new PC the day before Doom3 came out.

    Here's the spec

    P4 3.2Ghz w/ht
    1024mb RAM
    128MB GeforceFX 5200

    All the bells and whistles...

I bought Doom3 The day It came out (yesterday) and started to play...

I have to have the res set to 640x480 - Med graphics.....
I mean, what kind of system would you need to be able to run it at 1600x1200?

Seriously, maybe I've got to fiddle with settings and download new drivers etc, but it just seems crazy to me that a brand new PC (Not exactly a really crappy spec) has to be run at such low quality.

When you have a 19" monitor, 640x480 really doesn't look all that.

Has anyone else noticed that they have to fiddle lots with the settings to get it to work well?

    I have the following:

    Athlon 2400+
    512MB RAM Generic PC3200
    Radeon 9800 PRO 128MB
    Benq 17" LCD 16ms response w/ DVI

and it runs great at 1280 x 1024 - medium. I have to say that it is very impressive on this monitor..

    Lucky guy.

My version of XP doesn't support the Radeon Cards... Just ordered an FX5900 Ultra.

Not too expensive and the test stats seem to say it's usable.

Ha ha that is my fav quote so far, straight to the point though ;)
I would really recommend getting driver updates when you can, I remember the very first time I updated drivers there was a massive improvement for me :D

I'm not sure about Doom, haven't played it but just looks like dark corridors and I hate games like that...of course you will be scared if you can't see anything

Doom3 is just a teaser as far as I'm concerned...really waiting (and building my new system) for half-life 2. Saw a 600 meg demo about 6 months ago - looks like it's going to be top notch.

Yeh Half Life 2 does look amazing...
I have a 1.4 AMD, 512MB RAM and x4 AGP Radeon 128 MB so I doubt I'll be able to handle it but I think I may try.

Tried FarCry and although it didn't look great I had a good gameplay experience so I was happy, turned into a demon at the multiplayer :p

If Doom3 is any sort of indication of what you'll need to run half-life 2 you'll need to upgrade :(

sebasic: you have one ROCKIN' machine - I gotta believe the graphics card was your bottleneck that required you to run 640x480/medium - let us know how much it improves. Yea, you gotta wonder about why type of hardware would run Doom III in ultimate-resolution ... but the ID guys have always pushed the envelope.

BTW, for all those gamers with bad-ass PC's, pls consider running Google Compute on your IE Toolbar if you are interested in supporting a good cause.

Doom is often credited with the rise of first person shooters; but it was really "beyond castle wolfenstein" that did it a few years earlier. Kinda felt like you were driving a car around, and doom made the movement a lot more real, but I still enjoyed wolfenstein a lot better. Until you had to fight hitler in a robot suit. What was up with that?
