I had a couple articles submitted to a bunch of article directories... the results for backlinks was great but unfortunately some of them published my email address... and you know what that means? SPAM! Been getting a dozen spams a day now, blocking them all for the future but they just keep coming. I'm gonna use an "article" email address next time
I sympathize with you on that one. I also have had a similar experience and decided to use an email that is for nothing more than receiving all the spam I get when creating an article or signing up for something. Worst part is that some of them tell you that you can unsubscribe and when you try their system does not work or you just receive emails from the other 25 business names they own.
i never use a primary email other than giving it to my firends and for official purposes. this is my email that's 'exposed' to the world: the 721 in inbox is also because alot of them made sure i sign up to recieve spam before i get to read their info, products, etc.
I gave my primary email by accident for a link building project and I cannot believe all of the opportunities that I am receiving from people who need a hand moving some money. However, in a positive way, makes great content for one of my sites.
I set up an email alias for each domain I am registered with for example my email on here is something like digitalpoint (@) example.com. This helps to cut down on a lot of spam and I know who they got my email address from!
I setup an email address "submit@mydomain.com" that just forwards all emails to my primary email. This way you keep the spam messages out (you can just turn off the forwarding), and importantly directories are more likely to list me, since I'm using an email address at my own domain.
So true. And don't use it on Usenet Groups. And don't include it on online resumes either. I have about twenty e-mail addresses, each one for a different group/subscription/etc. (i.e. - forums, New York Times sign-up, Usenet groups, directory submission, . . .) so I get some idea where the spam is originating. I also have a resume posted on monster.ca. The e-mail address included with the monster.ca contact information is different than the e-mail address I put on the resume itself. The "View Counter" goes up, indicating somebody has viewed my resume, but nobody contacts me for further information about a job. Yet a day or two later, I get a massive surge of spam at both of the posted e-mail addresses. I am pretty sure many so-called "potential employers" are scraping e-mail addresses off the monster.ca resume database and adding them to spam lists.
