On the subject of .info = spam

I must admit it is probably seen as spam by people that are involved with sites all day long (that includes most of as in this thread)
But a regular surfer will value the quality of the info, the design and the cluttering of advertisement before it comes back again.

I agree .com is probably easier to remember but if you make sure .info is part of your brand (something like quality.info) then I don't thing it will be hard to
    remember them

    my 2 cents

well, i disagree with what you've said, why??? because i owned many .info sites..anyway its just a TLD the most important there is the content no matter what your TLD is, even if it is a .com or whatever, everyone rely on what content that you have.

Keep on buying .info Domains, because aside from being cheap, it's too cute to remember...lolz..

Its easier getting backlinks for .com then for .infos, and a genuine one way backlink giver, may think that .info is a spam site or a MFA. :)

I love .info domains, due to the fact that they are so cheap. A lot of people think cheap = not good quality / spam. Well, I've to disagree: content is king and if people like what they get on a .info domain it they wouldn't be more satisfied if it was a .com domain. just my opinion

That's true .. any more it's all about content .. the only problem is that the .com is so widely advertised that most people any more just assume that your domain is .com .... I've done it myself and ended up going to someplace I didn't want to go LOL! The general public doesn't know, or care, what you paid for your domain ... they only care what they can get from your site(s) ...

I personally feel .info sites are a good extension for information sites. Also, there are really good .info domains available. With .com, you always have to go for some bizzare names because all the good ones are taken.

Also, .info sites domains might become a scommon as .com domains in a couple of years.

I totally disagree, it depends on the site. If it is a site that main purpose is information... That is what .info is intended for..

Little difference between extensions. There is a big difference between extensions. For one everybody know what .com is. Not everyone know what .info is. Tell somebody to go to house.info and I will bet you that they will type .com

well, the problem is that every f'ing .com has been taken to the point of complete frustration. I spend at least 2 hours a week searching for .com's, and I can't even remember the last time I've snagged one. Everything I think of has been taken. Every fake word I "invent" is taken, every compound word is taken, every popular phrase is taken.

.com are more rememerable to users now but as .info is cheap users are realising there is a thing called other exts .info is really the best ext because of the meaning behind it = information where .com is for companies(correct me if i am wrong abot .com meaning)

What you say is true but .com is synonymous with the internet. Just like Xerox is synonymous with copiers.

People might remember .coms better, but how are you getting your traffic? If you're going for a large number of type in traffic, then .com might be good, but if most of your traffic comes from search engines, links, or bookmarks, then .info is just as good. .info seems like a natural extension for information sites.

I guess those that like info will use info and those that like .com will continue to use .com

    Okay Okay everyone ....

.info domains are diluted because the quality is generally not as high as .com's or even .nets .

When developing a website the extension is irrelevant to the beasts we know as search engines..

    ... this is tired posting.

.info's are the spammers choice :)

I guess the real question is are .info domains punished by search engines and from what i understand the answer is no.

Also i would say your average Joe (target customer) doesn't know or care a hoot about the extension.

Any "genuine one way backlink giver" is giving a link due to the quality of the site. Therefore it only makes sense that they would have visited the site first before doing so.

How does buying a cheaper domain have anything to do with Page Rank???

Pagerank has to do with how many sites link to you & what the PR is of those sites
