Don't use .info for serious sites! - a free tip for you

Just wanted to share a little tip here.

I see lots of .info sites being sold on dp and they attract lower prices than they would if the domain was .com/.net or even .org/.biz

.info are cheap and are perceived as cheap by most, so if you're trying to make some serious site, pay the few extra bucks and get yourself a real domain :)

And never, really never use crap like this best-real-estate-in-new-york.info - that's like so 1998 can't believe people still think it would help them get better rankings :D

(and let the spammers use .info :p )

Gotta agree with you there, Michael.

.com's are so much easier to remember, and .info screams spam.

C'mon - less then $10 will get you a brand new .com domain!

Well, you get what you pay for...

I completely disagree with everything you just said.

I know quite a few honorable and authoritative .info sites, including house.info for one.

    Extensions are fairly irrelevant.

if you have a premium .info domain that's obviously something else.
the domain house.info by itself, without any site would be worth like $30K

I think it depends on what the site is about. I prefer .com but i can see some good info sites and ideas for them.

The .com is best for people to remember url.

.info is cheap. It's good for buying in volume for sites you don't care about, for things such as PPC arbitrage. Sites on .info aren't generally intended to gain repeat traffic.

i see litle difrence from the domain extensions

And if a name i whant is free in .info i prefer it then taking a .com

And for exemple my webdirectory is on .info becouse info = informatics

Anyway each persons witch his likes and dislikes

Yep -- I agree with your disagreement if you get what I mean ;)

It's a massive generalisation to discount .info's -- they fit certain (informational) sites far better than other extensions & extensions are mostly irrelevant for SEO purposes

    I disagree.

.info will become in time the next most popular domain name extension after .com

Keep on buying .info domains - they are cute! ;)

I dont know why, but when I come across a name like bodybuilding.info...I first think it is a MFA, however, if I see bodybuilding.com, I check it out, before coming to a conclusion.. just a personal opinion..

In my oppinion .info can work perfectly for some type of sites. If you want to open a mortgage, insurance, auction websites to provide services, of course .info won't work.
But, if you're talking about fansites, informative websites I believe that .info's can work very well.

I own evamendes.info and I still havent had the time to "work it", and I get a average of 1000 hits per month.

So, all depends of what type of website you want to open.

Nob ody buys .info as the first choice. It is only when it is difficult to geta reasonable .com, people go for info or other tlds. From serps point of view, tlds doesnt make a diffence. So info is good for sites which expects traffic mostly from SEs.

For some sites .infos are cheaper.

I need .infos purely for the service I offer. It's cheaper, and when you buy in 100s, it's a big saving.

If you're planning to build a network of say 100 sites, you'd OBVIOUSLY prefer .info's rather than .com's due to the price factor ie. you can get one info for like a dollar these days, why spend another 7-8 bucks on a similar thing?

.COM is easier to remember ONLY because its the current *dominant* extension and was probably the first of its kind.
