I recently made a post on my blog about a new website that recently launched.

I got in the top ten of google for the name of the website and was getting traffic.

So I thought I would try and push myself a little higher in google by commenting on the blogs that talked about the article.

I just searched through the top 50 in google for the name of the site and any site with a comment form I left a comment.

Each comment was unique and was a genuine insight and reflection of the post. I used the name of the site in the anchor text on a few of the comments.

I think I posted on 5-10 blogs which took about 20 mins.

2 weeks later I'm now in the number 2 position just under the site and getting even more SE hits for that single term.

Despite the fact blog comments have nofollow it seems to always have a positive effect on rankings.

While it could be another factor in play here from my own experience and seeing how other people have been doing, many nofollow links still seem to have a +ve effect SE rankings.

sure its helpful if you add proper comments, just writing to get a link from there might not be much fruitfull, as webmasters are selective to accept those comments

    I completely agree!
You need to writing something useful or insightful or you'll soon be identified as a spammer.

Plus it raises your profile as an authority in your niche and the blog owners may become more likely to pay attention to your site and talk about the stories you write.

Yep, whenever you add content, whether it's on blogs or writing articles, always write with the end user in mind, not SEO (to an extent of course...you still need to target the right keywords)...I think as SE's get smarter, this type of content will become more and more effective.

Agree. Blog comment & forum signature are the 2 methods that I use often.
