I think the point is clear...its venting a shared frustration...apparently several others have gone through this experience also. Also a warning to those who attempt to "pull the wool over my eyes".

and if the ONLY way YOU make money is when your DIRECT time is involved, there is a lot I can teach you ;)

and that my friend is the problem

remember, these are people I am looking to HIRE. I have a need for outsourcers, very frequently for minor projects.

I HAVE to talk to them to screen them out.

I have to also give the benefit of the doubt, they could be young, etc. I don't want to wrongly accuse someone. So i have to go till i am convinced to pick them or drop them...in the three instances i showed here, I DROPPED THEM.

So he might be South American, or here's a thought, he doesn't want to give away personal details. I can't defend a stranger and who knows what he was up to. However a person has every right to lie to protect their identity and remember that what you consider makes you an American does not apply for all Americans.

For example: "99% of americans won't have (or need) it at their disposal." Spanish is the second most spoken language in the United States. I would say that the 34 million plus Spanish speakers in the United States might find a use for a special configuration on their keyboard. :)

It's good that you are careful about choosing clients, but it's disconcerting to see the inherant racism by which you generalise a populus based on your own assumptions.

I don't know why people lie about such things... just to get business??
    That is like scamming....
I think if he had told the truth, he would have the job by now.

Well lets be frank why do we even ask where a person is from specially when what matters is can the person do the work or no.. Can we judge a person from his/her location no...

of course we can... here are TEN reasons off the top of my head

    do you need more?

    1) Small talk - just to know the other person you are hiring better
    2) for record - this IS A JOB, why wouldnt you want to know?
    3) timeframe - when are business/working hours for THEM? do they match up with our requirements?
    4) Language - how well is communication going to go?
    5) Fair Market - How much is fair pay for THIER economy?
    6) Legal issues - what recourse is there legally for any potential problems later?
    7) communication - what is phone service like in their country? what is the long distance rate?
    8) Performance - is their internet reliable? i remember a year or two ago certain parts of india was getting really bad with internet/power outages...for a time-critical project thats a problem
    9) Integrity - to see if they are trustworthy...if they lie about this they will lie about anything!
    10) Payment - is paypal available in their country? do we need to western union or bank transfer? Is it possible to pay in a different currency USD? Euro? £?

there are many reasons to ask country of origin, name, experience, age and MORE when hiring ANYONE whether outsourcing or not.

Get off the whole "racism" thing guys...it has nothing to do with where you are from but how you conduct business.

Yes, it is best to avoid argument, there is no point in uneccessary antagonism and I wouldn't want to tarnish your reputation because I'm sure you are a nice individual. Everyone lies and everyone has a reason to lie. I said he would be justified in lying to protect his identity, just as you were justified in lying about desert tigers to expose his :) difference of opinion perhaps but no matter. I didn't mean to label you as a racist, I just felt it was a bit disrespectful to generalise the American populus as English speaking when you have such a large hispanic community. All the best in matters of business and I hope you find someone to fix the forum :D

I would disgree IMHO, no one should lie and assuming that everyone lies does not make sense. I guess it just makes the liar feel better. Lying is lying, with or without reason.
