Uhhh....no directory submission MUST be approved. Especially free submissions made with auto-submit software/services. If someone will not take one minute to actually visit a directory, write a good description, and submit it to an appropriate category....then why the hell should the OP take a minute to review that listing and approve?

    Automated submissions always equal insta-delete.

To be honest, what attracted me to the site was the number of deep links.

And for that reason it will attract others who will submit and modify their own sites.

But, yes, to be truly unique you need to rewrite submissions.

I've been using haroldhill.org as an experiment in seo link development.

Of all the directories (500+) I have submitted to via DP, none have changed the description that I submitted with the site url and title.

Okay, I use around seven different descriptions because I personally want different descriptions of the site on different directories.

I doubt if most submissions use more than one different description for their individual site's to all directories.

homepageofthemonth put up an offer on dp for free submissions. Unfortunately, one of more users of this site spammed him.

He (?) over reacted and went on a mass deletion spree. He came on here to apologise and I think he should be thanked for it.

Thanked for the free service he offered and for publicly explaining why he may have deleted some good submissions.

I didn't delete any of the submissions.

I just inactivated them, because I wanted to allow webmasters to contact me personally if they really wanted to be included.-that was the original purpose of the post, but it has gotten out of hand.

Since we are going to talk about duplicate content, this is what I think.

I rejected 110 sites that were submitted by a submission service.
Those submissions probably have the same Title and Description submitted to 50-500 directories.
In my opinion, rejecting those submissions is one of the best ways to reduce duplicate content.

I never said I was perfect, but the attack by SundayBrew was completely irrelavant and uncalled for. He criticised me for duplicate content, but obviously did not read the first post which essentially said that I rejected duplicate content from 110 submissions. I guess attacking me was easier than agreeing with me.

I can understand both sides of the fence here guys. I help my husband all the time with his directories. We both talked about these issues of being spammed. Auto Submission software programs are really bad. Not becasue they come from one IP, but because the AI in the submission program is often poor at best when it comes to submitting the client to the proper category. Therefore you get tons of submissions in the wrong categories. If you have to review 200 plus per day of free submissions this is enough to drive anyone crazy. I really can care less if a submission service handles a clients account to post in our directories. Just get the categories right. Therefore I suggest using semi automatic submitters or RoboForm. This way you actually visit the submission page, select you category. After all what difference does it make if the client is lazy? We don't review the client, we review his or hers website...anyway just my observation guys. Peace and out. :D

If the thread you initiated was meant to support only DP'ers and by DP'ers you meant individuals with some sites that its ok to reject submissions from a Submission service, though you can always accept/reject you are the king if you are owner. But hey many DP'ers have a submission service here so how about that?

Best of luck with your directory though and do take care of the Copyscape thing since it matters alot~

    Hello...

I cant say i wouldn't feel the same way as its obvious when a bulk submission is made. I have 30 of mine currently being submitted on a constant basis and specifically asked the submitter to send me the monthly reports off where and to whom it was submitted as well as the catagory directory was placed in.

I think the problem lays in that many off these services come from india and other parts of the world where the english launguage is used but the spelling and categories can get confusing for many of them and the service is so affordable that we simply cant pass it up as in the end its hit and miss and
truthfully doesn't matter as they are mostly just free directories starting out and the editors can do as they wish.

Whats sad to me is that we are all feeling the crunch for others mistakes "poorly named threads" and the thought that all directories where affected by the algo, penalization or whatever the hell is going on. The problem is that nobody moves forward here when this happens as the submitters are hurt since they cant build thier backlinks and the directories cant move forward due to money or surrounding conflicts. In the end nobody wins and we all lose "precious time".

    thx
    malcolm

In many cases, I find links submitted via auto-submitter are not that quality. I often delete them. They tend to place their links in a wrong category also.
