So a couple of years ago, my brother Kurt had a fun time hunting a rat ... with an M-1 Carbine. So I tossed that saga up on the web and didn't think much about it, except for the occasional Email from folks who write in with their rat hunting stories, which were generally pretty entertaining. So recently, I decided to futz around a bit with CSS/AJAX (since they are the "in" things these days) ... and decided it would be fun to jazz that page up a bit. I also embedded a bit of audio (so crank up the speakers ... if you dare!) ... although figuring out "the best" way to do that seems to be a non-trivial problem ... but it all works for me with Firefox and IE on Windoze. I'd be curious how well this web page loads for other people - it's about 350KBytes (incidentally a little less than cnn.com) and does it "work" for you and/or any suggestions on how to ... uhhhh ... liven it up! ;-) P.S. I have nothing against rats ... until they invade the house ... and if you heard my wife scream when she see's 'em, then you'd know that ... welll ... a man has gotta do what a man has gotta do.
HAHA!!! That makes lots of rats! We've been having problem with a rat in the garage some months ago, I think it was quite intelligent.. never getting in the trap. Mom bought a glue, put that under the car with some food on it, guess what! the next day Mr Rat was stuck on it, not dead and screaming like hell, dad hit it on the head to kill it. Was very funny
Glad you guys like it. BTW, I asked this in the "about" section, but I'm using .wav files for the audio - if you aren't hearing sound, you are missing the most ... uhhhh ... entertaining part! ;-) It works for me with Firefox and IE ... but some people have said they get a plug-in required. Which raises an interesting question that is becoming increasingly relevant which is what is the best/universal format for multi-media stuff like audio and video.
That is a pretty neat enhancement - that in itself will make many people jump. I live out in the country and when the fields (corn and soybeans) get harvested in the Fall, the field mice begin migrating towards the warm and safety of my home ... not sure if I'm willing to blast holes in the wall hunting them though For now, the cats will have to do.
Alek, I dig it the most, man! I LOVE your site and would not change a single thing! YES! This is what the internet was meant for! I have had limited experience hunting the wily rat, also! He is, indeed, a clever and formidible opponent! I didn't have any trouble loading the pages (using my rickety old Windows browser!) but I also have RoadRunner. As you said, it loads about as fast as cnn.com. Keep up the good work, Brother of the Eternal Rat Hunting Order! Buzz
