Hey gang...I'm sorry I haven't been around much the last while, but life has been busy...

Anyway, I thought that I'd make the rounds of a few of my old haunts and post this summary of a patent MS put out on mining SEO forums for link exchanges...

    http://www.huomah.com/Search-Engines/Algorithm-Matters/Are-the-search-engines-spying-on-SEOs-.html

In short... I'd refrain from posting links as Google is likely to have a related approach... not just the Bingsters...

    m'kay?

    Peace... and happy ranking!

True. I used to make this mistake before but then after someone warned me, I stopped doing it.

And SEO guys laughed at the PPC'ers because they keep getting slapped.

Looks like slapping is coming to a strategy near you.

Maybe it's a good thing - it will trim off the fat (I mean the lazy linkbuilders)

Good advice, and I am glad you posted it. Its fairly dumb to be so public about some Google frowns on (link exchanges) and not expected to get slapped for it :)

If you build a good themed site with good content people will want to exchange links with you....

Looks like good advice, I think they have been doing something similar for a while. I wouldn't worry too much though. You can often pick a random keyword, check the top sites, and do a little backlink research on these top sites. They often use techniques that the SE's say are bad, or will be penalized. Many top sites, have terribly spammy link profiles, but are succesful anyway. I wouldn't recommend trying it yourself, but I'm just saying.
