Please learn from my mistakes. There is no shortcuts in SEO - at least not permanently. I thought I was doing the right thing by going to about 15 Social BM sites and stuffing them with my sites. I would put one site in per week (on average) and they were either mine or my clients. I would never socialize with anyone - just get in - post my links - give a brief description - and get out. I've been checking my backlinks for the past six months - and not one link from a social bookmarking site linked back to me. Possibly, I think they all thought I was spamming - in a way, I guess I was. The lesson learned here is that I will not share not only my own or client's websites - I will share articles from other ppl. I will make connections w/ other users w/in the SBM sites. I will build a network so that the SBM site can trust me. I will have to learn to take my time and not just throw links in there so I can get a one way link back to my site. So heed my warning...not 100% sure if these SBM sites thought I was "spamming" - my intentions were not to - but when I look back, they probably were.
The thing to realize is that you wont get anywhere with Social Bookmarking Sites unless you socialize. You have to make friends and build connections to get votes and thus traffic.
When u do social bookmarking, you are not only getting one-way links to your sites, you are also branding yourself; you are establishing yourself as an expert to reckon with in your niche. A lot of these profile pages also get very high PR love from Google, thereby giving you a better chance of dominating your niche in the search engines. A lot of people on the site will also add you as a friend which will expand your network of fans and thereby generating you more traffic for you. But things can be go to the wrong direction if people begin to doubt your intention. It is alright to earn somthing u need from that, but it also needs your truly contribution.
its a good lesson for us, and i am learning much for this.thank you for sharing to us here your experience, i hope you have to get your success.cheers
Where are you checking for the backlinks? Are you going to each site and finding your link or are you looking for them to show up in siteexplorer or 'link: ' search?
wow sorry to hear that you had to learn this lesson the hard way. Now you know to build value and this will never happen again for you. I do not use social sites to market, but I will take your warning seriously.
Wow. thanks... I actually did that same mistake. Being new to internet marketing, i thought the same you did. Thanks a lot mate... I will make amends, I hope it is not too late.
I made the same mistake too. A lot of backlinks from diggs and stumbleupon have been removed too. It is a good lesson learned here. I'm sure everyone will go trough this process before begin a real socialize.
