The other day i found this on Dax blog http://work.biggnuts.com/fuck-404s-for-wordpress/ it is easy to screw up url if your are using the SEO friendly link, so why instead showing the ugly 404, why not send them back to home page. the script also transfer the link juice back to your homepage
