Don't like yours much! ...says GG.

Does anyone know why Google doesn't seem to like this site:

    http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=e...co.uk&btnG=Search&meta=cr=countryUK|countryGB

Could it be OO? Duplicate content? I really don't know, but would really, really appreciate your insight. We work really hard here to provide quality content, we DON'T rip other sites - we get all our own data, we're NOT an Adsense only site, we do well in Yahoo & MSN and used to do really well in GG. But I feel we're being penalised for something & for the life of me I can't see what! Maybe I just can't see the wood for the trees.

    Thanks for you help, Marc

What does your site offer other that I can't get directly from a search engine?

    Hi Shannnon, good point!

Unlike other IYP's that just list a business under a single business type we actually list the individual products & services that they do or sell. We also list opening times and we're applicable an email contact form. The listings in this basic form are free, updated at least every 3 months and doesn't exlude those businesses without their own website.

The site's very successful because of this format - people can find what they want more easily - a "sumo wrestling suit" for example rather than a "fancy dress shop" that might not sell or hire that item, and they can see when the business is open - all without having to call to check!

    Hope this helps )

I was working on a similar page(s) for one of my sites. If it is not going to do well in Google why add. As you know it is a lot of work coming up with the info. I wonder if it is worth the time.

The site does really well - only about 20,000 businesses on there at the mo and we get roughly 500,000 - 750,000 page views per month with more than 60% returning visitor rates. We keep our head above water and enjoy doing what we do - so I think it is worthwhile.

That said, I'm intrigued why GG isn't listing descriptions in the serps - I heard it may be due to dup content, but I'm no more than a basic SEOer, and hoped someone more experienced and educated in the field could help.
