Ok, so now I've got my site to a semi respectable PR5 including internal pages, will it do me any harm to continue to gather links that are only say PR2 or PR3 ? Or do I really need to find links that are equal PR or higher? Thing is, higher links are most likely paid links - and we know what Mr Cutts said...
Keep trying to get equal or higher PR links if you can - a few lower PR links won't do you much harm, but it's always a shrewd plan to aim for higher quality! As for Matt Cutts - take what he says with a pinch of salt for the moment. Google has no effective way of detecting paid links - that's why they're asking webmasters to grass on their competitors.
Yeah, you're probably right about the pinch of salt. What about all these signature links of ours then? They don't have any PR.
When people link to your site for whatever reason you cannot control that so it would be unfair for google to penalize you so the simple fact is they wont. So if you put your link on low or no PR sites it will only do you good. Obviously higher PR is much bettre but if you can squeeze a link in somewhere then do it.
I wouldn't be so worried about the PR of a link. A link has the value of traffic, too. As long as the link is coming from a related site, which has something of value, I would continue to add links. Link building is site promotion. When you decide to stop promoting a site, you stop building links.
Well I'm not sure if Cutts really meant "action" when he said whatever he did about Paid links, its just a dramatised speculation so that the link market slows down. (Thats what I think) IT
Er, maybe not all the time. I have a link or two in many directories that have never sent me a single visitor. But I didn't get that link for direct traffic.
what do you mean by that? anyway having links from low PR is fine. It would be better if you got from a high PR.
All backlinks are good. Even site has PR0 it can also be a source of traffic. I think PR nowadays has less value. If I would choose between site that has hight traffic or high PR? I would go for high traffic than high PR.
