I submitted one site of mine last year. No progress. I resubmitted it last month. Let's see the outcome.

Honest people should apply to become editors. Having a site you'd like listed is perfectly fine, as long as you're totally honest and aboveboard about it in your application, and you've taken the time to read the Guidelines, so you're sure the site belongs in the category you apply for.

Adding your site to a category you edit in is perfectly legitimate, as long as it's a site that belongs in that category, one that meets the criteria for inclusion, and you treat it the same way you treat any other site.

crowbar is right but i do want to point out that you should apply for categories that are not huge ( between 50-100 listings including sub categories) or categories likely to have lots of spam. Also keep in mind that the size of a category will also consider the number of unreviewed sites that non editors can not see. :)

Yeah, but sometimes, getting approved as editors will require just as many tries as listing with dmoz.

Applying for editor is a good idea but do you think that it is getting harder now due to the many fraud editors that they had before?

You will theoretically get an improvement in pagerank after google indexes any link you get (assuming that there is not a nofollow etc). As PR is on a log scale, that improvement many not be enough on the 0-10 scale that gets exported to the toolbar. eg your internal PR from any new link may go from something like 1.0000000000001 to something like 1.99999999999, but both will still show as a 1 on the data exported to the toolbar. A DMOZ link is no different to any other link in improvig PR.
