Don't count your er, money -- Sedo plumpers / fake bidders

Looks like someone or someones are doing the rounds on Sedo.com and entering fake bids on various domains before disappearing into the ether when it comes time to pay.

I've read a few people complaining on other forums and it seems as if I've had a recent incident myself.

I can't quite fathom the motivation but I would advise against spending any 'domain sales' money unless it is in your sweaty hand. ;)

The conspiracy theorist part of me thinks it could be a good way of drumming up business for sedo but the normal thinking part of me kicks in and says to my conspiracy theorist side; "NO! That would be criminal and completely dishonest! Sedo would never do that."

Which puts me back to square one having no clue as to why people would go to the trouble of entering fake bids.

I also thought Sedo had safeguards built into the ordering process to prevent these fake bids?

I also thought that, until some idiot made a bid on a domain of mine, which I accepted. He then said he wasn;t interested anymore. I complained at Sedo saying that I had accepted his offer and he was obligated to pay, but they said they couldn't do anything about it.

I have never used that Sedo crap ever since. they suck.

i "almost" sold 6 domains.. but only 3 sales went through after i agreed to offer. 3 times Sedo couldn't find the person who posted offer..
why don't they just reserve amount of bid on their credit card?

I had the same experience also from Sellers. made at least four offers. Sedo wrote that they had no response!

My theory is that Sedo has Schillers on staff. Makes sense to me.

I dont have any experciense myself with this, luckely, but I have heard about it before, and I think it is quite usual in all kinds of auctions.

It would really be great with a system to prevent that kind of "scam", maybe the bidders should pay some kind of deposit with cc (on larger auctions/sales), that would probably scare some small-scammers, and then the middleman (ex. Sedo) get their information on file.

You guys need to realize Sedo is just a portfolio holder.
It's a waste of their time too to follow up with complaints to users. What company in their right mind would would hire people to stir up complaints? Think about it.

Even though we hardly get personal with them Sedo staff are real people.

How many times have you seen women buy something & take the dern thing back the next day? How many people do you know that got paid on Friday & was broke on Tuesday?

My point is it happens, it happens often. Sedo can't be behind it because it's a hassle for them too. Don't count on anything till you have a confirmation that all of the money is there.

I just sold one domain on my site this month for $6K & truthfully till the full payment was made I didn't want to touch the money. If the buyer changed his mind I wouldn't have been too worried other buyers would have bought it. You have to think about it as a sale, & not as I finally got rid of that domain.
