You are right that it's far easier to get the knowledge out of ebooks, but for me that's not the point.
I think someone interested could easily ask the help of a lot of people who will be able to tell you what's in the e-books and explain that for a lot less than a 100$ or so. And that's even better, cause you can get personal advice on YOUR site, not just examples and succes stories of others...

Something I'm surprised no was has mentioned is what value you put on your own time.

Would you rather spend 3-5 hours searching forums for information and then another couple hours organizing it or get it all in one place neatly organized?

Surely 5-7 hours of your time is worth far more than $97 and could be used to build sites, create new PPC campaigns, write articles, etc? Then at night print out the ebook read in an hour or two and your done.

Book stores are still in business for a reason.

Simply dismissing ebooks as junk is a BIG mistake. In fact, I have a feeling
some of the guys attacking these ebooks actually read them. Some of the
information shared in this very forum and others is taken from
ebooks (Forget about copyright :D) and vice versa.

Reading ebooks is one of the fastest ways of learning useful strategies.
Yes you can search forums, blogs etc for info but it will cost you a lot
of time to come up with all the info you find in one ebook. You don't
want to do this! Time is money and you know it.

I do agree that some of these ebooks are simply pathetic but when you
do find a good one it can really change your fortunes. Now isn’t that
    worth a try?

If you want to get into a particular market, would search for an ebook
first, then use forums to keep yourself updated. This way you can learn
learn a new market super fast.

Now, I am not saying go out and buy these ebooks. I wouldn't
recommend that since I don't buy them myself. I always get them
free. I would say these resell rights resellers are destroying themselves.
What one is selling, another is giving away for free to get optins :D

Note: It’s not the “gurus” that are suffering here. They write an ebook,
sell it with resell rights in one of their fire sells, forget about it
    and move on.

So next time you see an ebook that really attracts your attention being
sold, try to look for it somewhere else where it’s free :D

I can't speak for other authors, but that's not what I do.

I can't speak or other authors, but that's not what I do either.

Although one of the selling points of my ebook is that it does have a lot of info, available from many different sources neatly put together into one easy to read format, there are several unique and original ideas.

Even if an ebook does have 100% info available here at DP forums or other forums, the fact that the reader can save days, if not weeks of time can make it worth the price - although I personally would never spend $99 or even $97 ..

i read two ebooks, one the RJ (dont laugh) and "project X".

I learned a lot since i was a total ROOKIE...not that i say RJ is the most competent man on earth...lol..but he opened me the eyes and gave me ideas to do things which i never did before.

It never came to my mind i can run sites and blogs and try affiliate stores and marketing - this basically gave me the kick in the a$$ to DO it.

However, now after two motnhs i found so many great resources (DP! :) ), i know what SEO is and am doing this and that.

Also...well...i can NOT say i heard bad things about "Project X"..i might wanna read this again....i dont think its wrong to have compact resources which give pointers for newbies..and THEN expand your knowlege with things like forums and blogs and reading up on things.

I'm picky about the ebooks I like, but I must admit I really enjoyed Affiliate "Project X" (APX) as well. You can see my review of APX for more details, but basically what I liked about it most is that it made me think differently about affiliate selling and it also provided concrete steps to take. It's also a pretty dense book, i.e. standard font and margins, lots of text... a bit on the pricey side, yes, but at least it has some meat to it.

"vip-surf.in/stats" doesn't work and by the way vip-surf.in does not have any content on it...just ads...you should watch out before big G ban you.
    Just an advice mate

As stated several times in the post above, eBooks put all the information at your fingertips.

When most people start out, they have more time than money. They have time to browse all the forums, blogs and websites and sift through tons of content to pick out the nuggets of gold (or green if you prefer :) )

I have folders in my bookmarks with hundreds of saved favorites. If I need something, it takes a while to find the link to the info. It's much easier to pick up an eBook and find a marked page. (I print out all eBooks and make notes on them)

On average, I buy about 2 or 3 eBooks per month. I've never spent $97 on one though. All the ebooks I've bought have been worth the asking price. Some, I may only get one good tip out of while others can change my thought process and give me new ideas.

It's all about time or money and which one you have the most of and how you value both.

exactly :) .. i never bought a ebook about "making money" or something like this. I spend the money in buying domains, hosting etc.. that just better investment.

EDIT: actually i pay around $9 per com domain , that are ~10 domains which can bring me MOORE than $97 ..

I have bought several ebooks but only one was worth the money. Most of the good infor can be found in forums like this. Better yet asking about an ebook here before making a purchase is a better choice. The money spent on most ebooks can be better used towards purchasing hosting a domain name or other services that will increase the likelyhood of your domain getting targeted traffic. In some cases a PPC campaign would be a better alternative after a little research. i can learn more from a cheap PPC campaign than I could ever learn from an ebook of equivelent value. There is only one ebook I could reccomend and it would be for a noob.
