Don't be afraid to experiment with your Adsense.

Don't be afraid to move your adsense blocks around and experiment. I just moved a 336x280 square from above some content to the middle of the content, and my CRT nearly doubled for that ad spot in a day. Normally it was getting 55-75 clicks and it's well over 110 clicks with the new position. Most of you know this, but just a reminder. Move things around now and again and see if you can find the magic combination of position and colors.

There is no harm in experimenting unless you are not clicking on your ad..:D

I agree you have to try differant combinations but how much time do you give to each alteration a couple of days or more, the reason i ask is you may move it around the site on the day that you dont have many visitors to your site so you have to give it a little time to see if it works.

Yeah, I definitely agree with you on this. One thing to note also is that any changes that you make, must be monitored at least 2-3 weeks before coming to a conclusion. Most of the time, people rely on data collected for a short period of time (few days) and interpret what they like which is not a good practice.

It's much easier if you have a consistent number of visitors and clicks per day, that way you can track subtle changes. Take a couple weeks average clicks and then change your position, colors etc for a week and see what your change in average clicks is after that week. You'll be able to tell if it's better worse or the same. If you use Analytics, it's much easier.

On Wednesday the clicks were 56 on the ad and on Thursday i got 116 clicks. CTR went from 1.77% to 4.57%. Small on page change, but big results.

Ha! Thanks for shaking me up.
I thought that I might be missing something, since after a long time, I tend to think that I know what I am doing.

So I tried what you said. My CTR dropped like a rock (60%), and I switched right back to above the fold. My CTR went right back up again. Since this page's traffic is high, I didn't have to wait very long. Personally, I have NEVER had better success going below the fold, than staying above it. I always use just one 250x250, after a billion experiments.

But I wouldn't know that unless I tried, right? And for that, I thank you. The concept of "Don't be afraid to experiment" is a really good one. I will be trying more things in the future, just because of this thread. You just never know, unless you try! I was lazy, and you poked me with a stick. Good job! I liked it. Like they say, YMMV.

Hey no problem. It's easy to become complacent and not try new things...in your case, the old method was the best way to go. 99% of the time, I'm also and "above the fold" guy also. However, this block that I recently moved, was above the fold, but is now below, and it's doing better. Why??? Because it was directly above the information people were looking at, now it's right in the middle, and it actually looks like part of the content and links. This won't work in every situation, but I wouldn't have known until I threw it down there for a day.

Are you getting 110 clicks a day on one site or combination of your sites? What kind of impressions do you get a day?

The 110 clicks is on one adsense channel on one of my sites. That ad block gets about 2600 impressions per day. I have another adsense channel on the same site that gets about the same amount of impressions but only gets about 40-50 clicks per day.
