    Hi,

I have done my site and I have now just had my first email from someone saying that they can't read my site as the writing on it is to small and blurred.

I can see the font clearly as any other website on the Internet.

Why could this be that the person can't see my sites writting properly.

I am using .em as my font type on most of my site

An example of some would be:

    .9em
    .10em

Most of the fonts on my site are around .9em - 13em

What would be the best type of font to use so every body can read it through their browser.

Would it be better to use .px or something else.

I really need to know this as if this person can't read my site then maybe others can't read it also and it can be loosing me alot of money and traffic.

The site pages in question are the pages on the sub domain http://articles.simplysearch4it.com

Please take a look and see if you notice any thing strange like all the font being small and blurred.

Is there a better font size than .em so every bodies browser can understand it.

    Thanks!

I notice that alot of sites seem to use .pt. Is this better than .em.

This really gets to me as I was previously using .pt and then changed all my site around so that it mainly used .em as I had read in a few places that this is a better one to use on the Web for your site as people can resize your site if they are using different things or something.

Now I find that this can't be the best thing to use as my site looks like sh*t when I resize my browsers default font settings to anywhere from 9 to about 12. My site doesn't look right.

I think it looks fine. If anything, you might increase the line-height by a point or two.

Using pt measures is for print and completely inappropriate for the web. Use pt measures in your print stylesheet.

I suggest you write the complainant back to explain that he might have his default font-size set to "smaller" or "smallest" in IE or to some overly small size in in Firefox's or Opera's preferences.

    cheers,

    gary

Send a mail back to the complainant asking which particular browser he/she is using and also the Font Setting being used.

Don't be worried by a single mail your site looks fine to me.

    A darker blue for what?

I have taken a look at my site in different broswer font settings and notice that the best font to use for my site is 16 for the default browser font.

Is it best to using something like: stype: font-size=11px or something like that as I have noticed that Adsense usese that in their ad units and when I increase and decrease the browser default font size, that font for Adsense stays exactly the same size and doesn't decrease or increase meaning that you can see it all the time.

PX for font sizes = BAD

em is definitely what you want to use. Specifying a set pixel size is big trouble for those with bad eyes or high resolutions.

When in doubt, use a sans-serif font and specify sizes with em units. (for web stuff)

john269 - Have you thoroughly tested your site for cross-browser and cross-platform compatibility (that is, making sure it looks the same on all browsers and platforms)?

It is a good possibility that the user that cannot read the fonts is viewing the site on a Mac, and/or using a Netscape browser, both of which render system fonts quite differently than IE 6 on a Windows machine.

If the user is on the same OS and using the same browser as you are, then candidindia probably pinpointed the issue - the user may have their "Text Size" setting as "Smallest" in their IE "View" settings.

It might be because the person has a monitor with like 2300x1600 resolution.

I have tested my site on different browsers and platforms. I find that a few sites online don't do this.

I use netscape and firefox mainly firefox. When looking at some sites in firefox they are totally messed up. The sites seem to only be designed for IE.

Anyway, I emailed them saying that it is likely to be their default font settings in their browser and they then changed their IE settings from Small to medium or something and they can see my sites font much better now.
