Don’t Create a YouTube Clone with our Videos: Google

If you too have plans to venture into similar territory, drop the idea now because you never know when Google pulls the plug on your site and then all embedded clips will stop working. Here’s what the updated Term of Use document from YouTube has to say:

Inappropriate Content: Commercial use on YouTube

We've updated our Terms of Use to clarify what kinds of uses of the website and the YouTube Embeddable Player are permitted. We don't want to discourage you from putting the occasional YouTube video in your blog to comment on it or show your readers a video you like, even if you have general purpose ads somewhere on your blog. We will, however, enforce our Terms of Use against, say, a website that does nothing more than aggregate a bunch of embedded YouTube videos and intentionally tries to generate ad revenue from them.

Just nicking content really isnt it if you take reems and reems of vids from you tube. It just doesn't look natural to anybody. at least you can still legally use the odd vid - which can be a useful draw from a user perspective.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I imagine this wouldn't matter if it is all your own content?

Seems like if they are yours they are yours, however they are stored on a server owned and maintained by google and that's when it gets kind of iffy. Then most of these places have such long and complicated terms of use and service it's hard to make any sense of them half the time.

I was always under the impression that you can do this kind of website with your own niche as long as you have no advertising on the page the video was on? What if it was half and half with the clone?

If you want to put ads on your site then the best thing to do is just start your a video hosting script. Then you can embed youtube videos with your own.

so let me get this right, it's users like us, making the vids for them to profit, and they don't want people like us to distribute our own video's further around the web...

I still don't understand? Do you mean embed videos that you made yourself?
So if i wanted to embed the best 1,000 videos of my niche from many sites youtube, metacafe, etc that is not legal?
Or can i do this as long as there is no advertising on the video page itself?

Seems like Google is the only one Google want's making money! But, they do have to pay for the servers and maintaining of everything so it kind of makes sense.

They are doing this because some videos have Adsense ads displayed on them.

    In the end....

Im really thinking they are talking about those whom make "made for adsence sites"
using ALL youtubes videos as there main source of content and use adsence to collect from it.

And nothing wrong with getting rid of them as the content is youtubes (googles) and the money
generated (adsence-googles) so they are just collecting from googles back and should be de-indexed
and there adsence accounts shut down.

Im alright with whatever anyone does :)

We also have a youtube (niche video site) and have uploaded a few (3-4)
of their vids but most content on our site is unique and we want to keep it that way ;)

I think this section of there terms explains what they mean...

a website that does "nothing more than aggregate a bunch of embedded YouTube
    videos
" and intentionally "tries to generate ad revenue from them".

as is what i understood when i made my comment above... :)

    thx
