Hello, I have a YouTube account, (I will call it MovieBin, although that isn't its real name) It is movie related, movie trailers etc. I have got 600+ subscribers in around a month and I was thinking of making a movie blog on WordPress. The YouTube account will be a good way of getting readers and the blog will be a good way of getting subscribers. They will help each other. The problem is 'Moviebin'.com is taken. It isn't a popular site and has around 14 visitors a month and half of them will probably be me. I dont really want a .net or .co.uk. I was wondering if I could buy 'TheMovieBin'.com? Would the owner of 'MovieBin' have a problem? I know MovieBin.com expires in February 2008 so I could buy it then, if he doesn't renew it. Then direct it to 'TheMovieBin'.com. Could buy it off of him? How would I go about it? I havent a clue as this is my first website! Advice please
Go to the website and look for a contact form, sometimes contact forms are in the html as well. Or look it up on whois and maybe you get a name/adress and contact the person with a deal to buy the website. If no contact is made, wait until February and snatch it up. Is his site idea similar to yours? If it's a small site then there shouldn't be any problem with the naming, issues only result when you take a large name IE: Mikcrasoft or something like that. Microsoft might not be happy with it. Best bet would be to contact the mate. Good luck.
The site is a basic layout with feeds from other movie websites. There is also a Delphi forum which has low activity. I am wondering whether I should buy TheMovieBin.com and then if MovieBin.com becomes available in February, buy it, and redirect it.
I don't think it is a registered brand and the owner probably won't care. Just go ahead and buy a similar domain. If money is not a problem you could buy the .tv domain, since it is related to movies and .tv would also perform better in the SERPs (I believe).
TLDs have no importance for ranking. A .tv name can rank the same as a .com but it's a good idea seo4china.
hey i might be able to help you out ill get some info on the whois and ill let u know who the actual OWNER is because that domain is just parked
couldnt find the actual owner on the whois... but is where its parked/bought at so just email them saying that you want to buy that domain and you would like to contact the owner talking as a web developer i would say you dont buy the domain, buy it after its expired because when the owner knows someone wants the domain, the owner is gonna put a high demand on the domain and WILL renew it so just wait till it expirs if you need anything else hit me up my website is netsfer.com
From your description it is an active but low volume site with a forum. The odds of the domain not being renewed is slim. The odds of you being able to grab the domain when it expires is even slimmer. You best bet is to contact the owner and see if he will sell at a price you can afford. I would grab the "the" prefix but first check that it is not trademarked at: http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=tess&state=ic32uc.1.1
