DOmains with " - " in them? Good or stay away?

    Hey everyone,

Just wondering if buying domains for the purpose of resell, does the - matter a whole lot?

Would a domain like www.zero-debt.net be worthless because it has the " -" in it? Even though its a good domain with a good market?

    Thanks :)

Whatever is good for you it's okay.

There is too much to discuss on domains with a dash, but the true fact is that they can rank as high as those without it.

I have PR6 domain with a dash and it serves to give it sense and readability to surfers so I think yous has the same potential.

I don't like them so I stay away. Kind of annoying telling a friend: go to word1 dash word2.com

I wouldn't think it's bad if it's just one "-". If you were selling the domain, you'd definately get less for it because of the hyphen, maybe 40% less from what I've read in forums

Nothing is bad from the start, it depends what you want to do

    Type in traffic = bad
    SEO = good

Well .. He was asking in regards to reselling..

In my experience the are less easy to flip if they have a dash. It all depends on the domain itself. If its a high paying keyword and all the none - versions are taken, then its valuable. If you can choose between dash or non dash.. Go for non dash for reselling purposes

If you have two of the most lucrative keywords such as keyword-keyword.com then its great. From an SEO perspective , people link to you as keyword keyword which also helps.

In terms of domain value alone, the dash will decrease the value..

However, in the eye of SEO, the dash can be helpful at times. Therefore, it depends on how you package the domain name sometimes ;)

I personally don't like them much and some say they are good for SE's and others say not so much so ???

I think it is better then a stop word instead (and,or,etc...) but I think most everyone agrees not more than 1 dash and you'll be fine!

    Hope that helps a little.

Ohh ok - Thanks for the help :)

So for an example a domain like www.ink-tattoos.com would still be worth lots even though it has a " - " ? but a site like www.free-of-debt.net would not be worth much correct.

    Thanks, take care!

It wouldn't be worthless but in my opinion just stick to words. Why? Because 99% for the population is lazy and if people see go to my site zero debt or whatever without a link they're going to obviously go zerodebt.com and probably about half of them wouldn't even think about putting a dash. Dashes are not bad though if you have more than one dash then you have a problem.

That domain would probably be worth a fair amount though :)

Well thats my 2 cents :)
