Maybe it's just late, but I seriously can't think of a single site I visit that uses a domain name with a dash in it. my-domain.com, etc... Can someone think of a popular site that has a - name? One that doesn't also own the domain without the dash?
Hi, I guess it depends what you mean by popular, if you limit yourself to the top 10 for something I guess so, you might have a point. But there are lots of websites I use that have a hypen. G.
search engines dont mind dashes. But if your making a website with dashes it gets annoying when your telling someone what your URL is and you have to say big DASH boys .net. People also might not remember to type the dash and you could lose traffic
Ya every time I tell someone (DASH), they say what's that? Now I got into the habit of saying (MINUS > - < SIGN) and have yet to find someone that doesn't understand that, but that can change! I give a computer class every Saturday and I always hear some funny stuff... A 56 year old took my class because he wanted to understand his kids when they talk computer stuff! His question... * / *, * \ * Don't you think they got backwards? I was just laughing when he said that, but I understand his point because some books written in the 20's, 30's and 40's refer to them in their opposite context from todays terms! jb
Here in Germany, dashes in domain names are very popular. I don't know why, I hate that too. When they have advertising in radio or so, and they tell their URL, it is often XX minus XX .de, that is really annoying.
Found 2 in Alexa's top 100 list www.internet-optimizer.com www.net-offers.net Also found this recent discussion on SEW... http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/showthread.php?threadid=8483
I always thought that site names with dashes or underscores are very unproffessional or somebody is trying to pass-off as some other site because they couldn't get the name
I just brought one with the dash---mixed-breeds.com . I couldn't get the mixedbreeds.com so i opt out for the dash one---I will let you know how it works out--Lore
Look just found one with dashes: http://www.brown-recluse.com It seems to be very popular--warning pictures are very grapic!!!
Eww, dashes look really ugly, to me, it looks unprofessional, the break in the site domain could symbolise the bad 'stuck together' kind of coding? hehe They also tend to be the search sites which I always to get linked to, the search-for-mp3.com's which just have a bunch of adsense links and no content. fworth, people actually buy spider traps in US? To actually trap spiders? Sounds insane!
I own a premium domain with dash my experience has been. 1. If domain is good people remember even with dash. 2. More Important with Quality SEO - Nothing Improves of Google you may actually get demoted (- ive) - You can get your self on top on yahoo (+ ive) Roxy
walmart's primary domain used to be wal-mart.com; looks like its walmart.com now though. I think it still says wal-mart.com on its trucks though.
Domains with dashes are good for SEO, however the problem with it is that a lot of people tend to forget the dash. And if you don't own the not-dashed version, you might lose a lot of visitors.
Just read a newspaper article, in which the domain www.advent-ist-im-dezember.de was mentioned... like I said, things are different in Germany
