Domains With Cyrillic Characters?

    Can I just register the domain xn-­-­d1aiy.­com at Godaddy to have users visit дир.com (a domain with Cyrillic characters) or do I have to use a special registrar for domains with Cyrillic characters?

    I don't think that if you register domain with cyrilic the sites will be popular, because it is hard to enter such address for western countries into their browsers )))

    I suppose that would be popular in some regions only and that will not be popular worldwide.
    So better to ask for the opinion in the places where people are interested.
