I just registered my 2nd domain name & upgraded my existing hosting with GoDaddy so I can use the same hosting with this 2nd domain. I have been trying to get this 2nd domain name to work with my hosting, but whenever I type in the domain name in Internet Explorer or Firefox, it shows the content of the 1st domain. I've emailed GoDaddy already & followed their instructions but it still doesn't work! Anyone able to help?
As long as I know the GoDaddy hosting plans do not allow addon domain names. So you have just parked the second domain name on the first one.
When I was in communication with GoDaddy before purchasing the 2nd domain, they said that I had to upgrade my hosting from a Economy Plan to a Deluxe Plan, then I could have 2 domains on the same hosting plan. Anybody else using GoDaddy with more than 1 domain on the same hosting plan able to offer assistance?
That is what I was telling. Have you upgraded the plan yet? Because I know that it gives nice bandwidth and space but for adding a new domain you need to upgrade the plans.
I have heard that GoDaddy offers one of the worst hosting deals out there, but I guess if they can't help you at all, you can always use .htacces to redirect your domain correctly, unless there is a preventive measure to do so.
How would you do a .htaccess redirect to redirect to a domain to certain subdirectory like what you've mentioned above? What is the code? I've managed to everything sorted out but would like to know this for future reference. GoDaddy didn't mention to me anything about needing to change nameservers to be exactly the same as my 1st domain name, just only about pointing the new domain to the subdirectory that I created.
Your best bet is to call and get someone on the phone to assist. Here is the number: (480)505-8877 Good Luck!
or else, just email them .. they give prompt replies [at least towards people enquiring about their plans]
My experience with GoDaddy has been exactly opposite. The more I use their hosting the more confortable I feel about doing that. I normally purchase domains from them mainly because keeping all domains in one place is about confort, too. Then, assigning domains to a hosting account is easy and it sometimes takes me less than an hour to get a website up and running from the moment I purchase the domain. Regarding their reliability, sometimes hosting support suffers but that should not affect me as an experienced coder as long as I know my way around hosting and website administration pretty well. Their linux servers are quite friendly when it comes to installing a CMS like drupal or joomla (can tell that from personal experience) and accessibility is reliable from different places of the world, slow at times but hey, show me a cheap hosting company that does not experience slow speeds. Discount coupons are to be considered, too. Their marketing techniques might become annoying but if you know what to ignore and just get what you want, I'd be using them. without second thoughts. Despite all the negative feedback on the net. For a non-savvy website owner GoDaddy might be a pain, for an experienced developer this is just perfect I'd say.
