I just had a domain name appraised through Moniker.com and they are telling me that it is worth $26,600. If I were to sell this website, how much do you think I could actually recieve?

domain appraisals usually aren't terribly accurate, in my opinion.

list it on sedo and see how much you're offered?

PM sent. I'm also looking on Sedo for similar things to find what prices they have there.

I'm not sure I'm going to sell the domain now, but I was just curious for future use.

you can list it (as far as I know?) without knowing you're going to sell.. just list it and if an offer high enough comes along, accept it. otherwise just turn the offers down

Allright, I'll look into that. If I can do that, then for sure.

I list all my domains on sedo, and reject offers.
You just have to make sure it is on make offer, not fixed price

sedo is definitely what I would go for.

ebay may (may) be a better venue for selling established sites.

Do you think ebay is better than DP for selling established sites?
    Thanks

depends on how established. if you're talking about a site that's bringing in huge amounts of money (10K+ a month), I don't even think selling it online would be the way to go; I'm guessing a business broker would be able to get you a better price.

for moderately successful sites, ebay, sitepoint, probably all work similarly well. if you list it on ebay you need to make sure attention is drawn to it though-- post about it on webmaster forums or link to it in sigs, etc.

It's worth as much as someone is willing to pay, no more no less.

Thanks for the absolutely vague response dcristo.

I just listed it on Sedo, so we will see what kind of response I can get on there.

Well what response do you want when you don't even list the domain?

I said the domain was appraised at $26k. I am asking whether or not a sizable portion of that is actually real. What the domain is doesn't matter. I'm after a general accuracy with appraisals.

Monte Cahn's moniker is reliable, however the one thing about domain appraisals that people often forget is this....

The appraiser does not know the traffic that the name gets. This is one of the most important factors in a domain's value.

IMO, there is no such thing as an accurate domain appraisal. Every appraiser simply tells you what he/she THINKS it is worth. And because there are no standards in evaluations, one appraisal can greatly differ from another.

Although $26K does hint at very good potential, it does not mean that the name can/will sell at that price.

    Good luck with it!:)
