We're wanting to purchase a few URL's that have the keywords in the URL that we want to rank for. We will have these URL's directed to our main website. I'm trying to find out what would be the best choice for a URL. Example: I want to rank for both Boat Ladders and Boat Ladder. Which URL would I choose? - BoatLadderNow.com or BoatLaddersNow.com (One is plural the other is not) Would one URL be better than another? Also, would it be better to have a word before boatladders.com; for example "MyBoatLadders.com" or better to have the word after; for example "BoatLaddersNow.com"? Hope my questions are clear, please let me know if I can clear this up at all. Thanks for your help in advance.
Personally I dont think plural or non plural makes a massive difference. Its also generally accepted to have the keyword first before any additional words. from my own experience Ive ranked slightly quicker for domains with no prefix than with a prefix but we're really splitting hairs here. Overall you might want to think about the objective for your sites... do you really need the keyword in the domain? you could have a domain called skjdfhskdjhf.com and as long as everything onsite and off site is in place you can still rank for your selected keyword. sure KW in domain makes things a little easier but if it was my own product I might consider a branding domain and the support websites with KW in domain. I suppose this is what your going for trying to read between the lines of your question. ie building your own mini site network to promote your main site. If your doing this make sure all your sites are on separates servers and IP addresses.. google pretty clever. Also dont interlink your support websites you will leave a foot print and as we all know google has just deindexed some of the larger link networks so trying to keep under the radar is even more important
but i think domain name is really important and its better that your domain contain ky at first for example for ky forex trading your domain must be like this forextradingworld but its much better exact match domain
True john it does give you a slight advantage I suppose this is one of those apples and oranges arguments and it really comes down to what your trying to achieve with your site
I'd use an advanced tool like Market Samurai to really analyze the strength of competition. You can get a free trial period with them without giving them any billing info. It's pretty sweet. I don't use them anymore since I didn't want to pay for the service, but it takes you beyond simple keyword competition and analyzes how many backlinks, domain age, PR, and other factors of the top ten results for any specific keyword you want. This might make all the different in figuring out which keyword phrase to go with.
we prefer to set up the individual sites with unique content and then direct these to our main site... they work like mini lead gen sites. We host them on our own dedicated server and have never had any issues with Google penalising us for this. The sites are structured in such a away to offer advice on a particular element of the MAIN site keywords that potential visitors would search for in the search engines. We use Market Samurai and also Google Keyword tool to decide on these "keywords" from the seed keyword. We then purchase the domains with the keywords in and we don't worry about using hyphens in these lead gen sites url's; however, the main site URL typically has a "solid" url. for example LabradorRetriever.com Training-Your-Labrador-Retriever.com, Stop-Your-Labrador-Retriever-Barking.com Hope this gives you a few more ideas.
