Hi guys, I was wondering how long a domain transfer normally take. I've bought a domain and started the transfer process 3 days ago. Before how much longer, should I start being worried, namecheap hasn't stated any problems on it's status page...
3 days is a bit long.. if it takes over a week, you should contact them about the transfer. I've done a domain transfer in the past and it didn't take more than 2 days.. but again it probably depends in your domain host.
Make sure that the email contacts are valid because you need to confirm the transfers. It also needs to be unlocked and at Namecheap, you need to provide it with the EPP / Auth Code otherwise the transfer will be in limbo.
Where are you transferring the domain names from ? Your 'away' domain name registrar needs to approve and seek the domain owner's approval before the transfer can be initiated. I had instances in which it took about a week.
Pushing a domain name from within the same registrar is not the same as transfering from one registrar to another. Of course, anything done within the same registrar should take a very short time to fulfil and does not come with that much restriction.
It has been almost 6 days and still nothing, also when i goto namecheap it doesn't state any problems. I've sent them an email asking them why it's taking so long, hopefully they'll say everything is fine and that it'll be transfered in the next few days...
Did you receive any email from gaining and losing registrar? Did you check your Bulk folder because your email provider might think it as junk mail.
2 more added. Make sure it is registered for morn than 60 days. Make sure it is not expired Normally it takes 1 week for transferring.
I am buying the domain name from someone else, here's the e-mail i've received from namecheap... Hello, The domain transfer is waiting for a reply to the transfer-approval email that was sent to the listed admin address in the whois for the domain which is . If this is incorrect you will need to update before submitting your transfer. Also, please assure you have any spam filters set to allow emails from Namecheap.com and ENOM. If you do need to have the email resent, please advise us the epp code so we may cancel the current request and initiate a new one for you.
Ah, that is the issue. The one selling you the domain name is not releasing the domain name and it is not something you can do. It is different if you are transferring from one registrar to another if they are both under your accounts. In this case, you need to check with the seller and have them do the transfer. Beyond that, there is nothing much you can do. The registrars are not at fault here, the seller is.
hostmonster is stating that the domain has the privacy feature. The support is stating the domain will be locked for 60 days, can I file a dispute, I made the payment through paypal, what are my options? Hostmonster Customer support: "The customer owns the domain name but since they SELECTED to have PRIVACY enabled our information will show up." "Think of it as leasing not owning."
Well, you cannot dispute. Ah, yes if it has a Whois Privacy locked, it is technically not registered under your name and thus the lock. You would need to unlock it and wait 60 days to have it transferred. You can contact Namecheap now and have them refund your transfer fees. You can try again after 60 days.
When you do a Whois on the domain name, see who is the Registrant and all the other contact. If it shows an actual persons name then it is not locked. If it shows up as some anonymous name or the name of the domain name registrar then it is Whois Privacy locked. The purpose of the Whois Privacy is to hide the owner's contact information. Once you unlock it, it should show your name, your address and contact information.
I've transfer my domain to other registrar, it took 3 days and once it finished i got automatic renewal from my new registrar. I write the process in my blog.
