Hi, We are in the beginning process of working with an SEO company and I have been told that having multiple domains pointing to the same IP is causing us not to be indexed by Yahoo (mostly) and the like... i.e. main site is www.longcompanyname.com -- but we have several items configed in the apache httpd.conf under ServerAlias like: www.mainproduct.com www.company.jp www.company.it www.shortname.com Some of the language ones are old and registered before my time, so could probably be dropped, but not others... They are saying that Yahoo considers this a no-no. Bottom line, does having multiple domains pointing to the same IP cause a Red Flag with some engines? How is this supposed to be done the proper way? Multiple alias IP's on the same server for each unique domain and then 301 redirect? im confused. Thanks Goose_68
No a problem with Yahoo... I have an account with 15 domain/sites on all doing well in yahoo and msn.. the key is to not draw undue attention to them by interlinking them or linking to all of them from other sites you own.
Thanks for the reply... but mayhap you misunderstood. to be clear, these domains all point to the same site. they are just alias domain names for the same place. There are only a few and a couple are previous domain names of aquisitions.
I can see this [Domain Aliases] causing a "Duplicate Content" problem. Yahoo has posted that "Sites with numerous, unnecessary virtual hostnames" [Server Aliases] are unwanted. A 301 redirect would remedy this situation.
