If my niche is credit cards but creditcards.com not available, how to SEO?

I would opt for credit-cards.com - people still love the dot coms ...

 

But it has '-' dash, probably visitor forgot type - dash in next time.

 

with the dash (-) is far superior. If it is optimized, it will come up in a search with or without the dash.

 

The most people like selecting dot COM.

You don't "have" to have keywords in your domain name to rank it for that specific keyword\phrase, it just helps.

 

Select the dotcom because most people think dotcom even if they know it is dotnet.

It depends on your strategy. You can decide to establish your brand name, which can be totally credit-card-irrelevant and use it as a domain name or you can concentrate on a keyworded domain.

In the first case you need a budget and a good marketer who could make your brand name visible.

In the second case, you can just concentrate on SEO because keywords in domain name do help. It is not a crucial factor but it really helps (if there are no more than 2 hyphens).

So, yeah, I would also go for the hyphenated version of the domain name.

 

i like hyphens in the domain name also (but not more than 2 as tankard said) because if someone decides to link to your site with your URL the keywords will be in there and easier to recognize because of the hyphens
