Domain required for blogging?

I'm relatively new to marketing blogs, but would you say that owning a domain for a blog that you intend to use for adsense has better chance of being ranked high on search engines. For example, would making a blog on wordpress give me enough chance to have a successful blog (using their subdomain blog.wordpress.com) or is it better to have your own domain for your blog?

    Thanks for any help :)

it is better to book a domain and host it somewhere for a blog. it basically looks more professional. as you are saying you are new to blogging, it is advisable to use a free blog platform. once you get a hang of it, you can have your own domain hosted somewhere.. the initial steps (WP or Blogspot etc) will give you an idea of how to write posts, monitor visitors, monetize it etc. after that you can go in full throttle with you hosted blog!

For a better TLD go with .com but if you are low on budget and have some quality information than you can also go with blogspot or wordpress.

in the long run you are better off just going ahead and purchasing a domain, you can buy a .info domain for like 2 bux. hostgator unlimited hosting is ten bux a month, but they have cheaper plans. Install wordpress on your domain and get to work. If you plan to do this for the long run you should invest in your own site and domain. Also, keep in mind that with the adsense business model you will want to have many sites.

So, since you are going to need many you can practice with a few blogger or wordpress.com blogs but I suggest you get your own hosting as soon as you can afford it. I built 5 blogger blogs before I started using my own hosting/domain with wordpress. Seems like the wordpress blogs on my own domain rank better and faster with google.

wayyyyy better to have your own domain. You have the freedom to do whatever you want with that domain and you will rank higher in search engines. I would highly reccomend this. Also you can post affiliate links and stuff on your own hosted domain and wordpress won't allow you to do this.

Yes I'm all the above. It's better to have your own blog because as you rank higher in the search engines you blog can become more valuable. I started out with Wordpress.com also but I did not have total control on how long my blog would stay up. on some free blogs such as Wordpress.com and Blogger, they can delete your blog without notice. But you need not worry about that if you are adding quality content.

Overall just as the previous posters has said, it's better to have your very own domain name and hosting. This way you always maintain total control of your blog.
