Domain Registration Scams Continue To Surface

    Hi Guys,

I received an email today from a domain registration company in Hong Long - they claimed that a holding company as applied to them to register similar domain names to mine, but with various country internet codes (I have the dot com, org and info of the domain)...

They claim they wrote to me because they knew we owned the trademark , and felt it was their duty to inform us that someone was trying to register these country domains...unless we had instructed the holding company to act on our behalf...

I wrote back saying I own the trademark for the domain name and I asked them to reveal the holding company... They refused coming back to me with a lot of poppycock..... Encouraging me to register the domains if I want to protect my business...

It was at this point that I smell a scam...

Anyone else have this experience, it's outrageous if i'm right in thinking they are trying to frighten or blackmail me...

    Any advice would be appreciated...

    Thanks...

As you suspected, it's just a scam to get you to buy domains from them. Ignore them.

I agrre, just ignore them. I don't think there is much that they can do anyways.

It seems like I get scam emails like once a month and it's annoying and funny at the same time. If only they put that energy and creativity into something legit.

Maybe you can post the name of the domain registration company who emailed you to inform DP members to not fall for this scam.

You have nothing to worry about. They are international domain names and can be used by anyone with no doubts
    Good luck

Ignore. In one of my signatures you can read about different email scams and where to report them. Good luck!

I received also email last year like that (maybe august or sept). They are claiming that my domain is their trademark. i also have the .com and they own the .org. I checked the registration date and i was the first to register the domain.

They are telling me that they will sue me. I just ignored it . Simple as that.

Hong Long? No such country. Anyway, ignore them.

If it is true that someone is stealing your trademark, contact your company's legal advisor first - to know what to do next.
