When i'm registering a domain name do I have to point the DNS record to my ISP's DNS server (The server is on my DSL line) or should I point it at one of the main DNS servers (e.g 4.2.2.1 is a popular one) or should I point it to my personal BIND dns server? Will it make a difference what one I point it to? This is the first time i've done this on my own server (usually I just use a hosting acct) so any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Jeffrey

Well, you will need to point it to the DNS Server which contains the translation of the Domain Name to the IP Address of your site.

Pointing it to your ISP's DNS Server would not do any good unless it contains details of your domain name. You probably be better pointing it to your personal BIND if that contains the necessary details.

Some Domain Name Registrar allows you to use their DNS Servers where you can add an 'A' record to point to your IP address.
