Im planning to transfer my existing domain (3mos old) with content to another registrar. Does the process takes long or a bit complicated? How long will be the downtime (if there's any)?
There is basically zero downtime transferring from one registrar to another. It is just change of your registrar and it does not affect your site in the least bit. It is really not that hard. There are two things you need to do 1) At your existing registrar, unlock your domain name, remove all anonymous/private whois protection and obtain the EPP code for the domain name. 2) At your new registrar, do a transfer for the domain name and pay for a 1-year registration. That mostly all. Then just wait for the emails, first would be from the new registrar to confirm the transfer then you may need to go to the new registrar to enter the EPP code obtained from the old registrar. Then you should get an email from the old registrar to confirm the transfer. Then it is just a waiting game. It may take a few minutes to a few days for the transfer to be completed. Think about the transfer of the registrar as just changing your upline reseller, you are ultimately still getting the same support from the main vendor, in this case, ICANN.
