Is a domain registrar, such as goDaddy, always also the hosting service, or are there any companies that just register domain names? Would a company that only registered domains be able to remain in business?
Typically web hosting companies are separate, however, some domain registrars like GoDaddy offer hosting, although I would advise against it.
Very interesting question... I suppose that it can be suitable for webmasters to register domains and also buy hosting at one and the same company. If it has good reputation, it can be good place to deal with.
There are a lot of companies that only deal with domain registration. Some do offer hosting as well, but you can also get it from another provider if you want.
The reasons that you shouldn't have your domain registered and your website hosted at the same company is because if your website somehow runs afoul of the hosting guidelines (for whatever reason), the host can not only shut down your site but ALSO hold you domain name hostage. If they are with separate providers, you can just set up a new website elsewhere without having to wrestle with the registrar/host who just shut you down. And I'm not talking about blatantly illegal things, either. I've heard of websites being shut down for too much traffic, especially if you happen to be hit with a DDoS attack. So, really, it's just better to keep everything separate.
Domain Registrars like Godaddy,Name,Namecheap etc offer hosting prices but it is not worhty to buy domain name from hosting provider who offers it.It is bets that everybody do their indiviual business
