Hey guys, Ive just bought hosting on TMZhosting.com im still new in all this stuff and i didnt read what the information email told me fully(STUPID ME) !!! ( so basically it says they register domain name, but it takes up to 72 hours for it to start working, and i thought that they do not give you domain names but only host the files... so now i go to name.com and buy a domain name with SAME name ive registered at tmzhosting, i need to know what can i do about this, i know i cannot cancel the membership in name.com basically im screwed, so what to do , what will actually happen when tmzhosting will set my domain name, will there be 2 domain names? or what THANKS for all who will help me,
What you did was smart. I would never leave a domain name in the ownership of the hosting provider... What you need to do now is just forward your nameservers to your host and then start working with ftp (assumed) and get your site up and running. You made a GOOD "mistake"... I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS recommend that YOU own your domain! If it ever gets valuable you would NOT want it in the hands of a company you pay $5-10/month to!
uuuh , thanks alot for explanation! Ive been so nervous for the past few hours, good mistakes i like! big thanks again can you tell me whats going on? , i pointed the servers, now it works , when i type site . com it goes to my site, but when i add WWW. it just redirects me to some search engine, i want both of them to point at my site and not something random, i know some people used to type WWW before site, so i dont want them to think my site was closed...
It's a cache problem if it's redirecting with the WWW. Probably something you need to wait 1-3 days for (when I first experienced the 'cache problem' I freaked out--just went through it today, but it took a couple hours to clear). Delete cache/Restart computer/Delete temporary index files/etc. Those might help. They never did with me... I just had to wait a little bit. Make sure you add a .htaccess so you can have the non-www forward to the www. Not exactly necessary, but I do it just to keep things clean. *** As for others typing in the WWW before the site, don't worry about it. If they didn't try to access the site when it was down (before forwarding the nameservers), you're fine. Try it on another computer and/or internet access... it should work with the WWW and without the WWW. Goodluck!
Thanks ALOT! You are my digitalpoint hero! everything seems to be fine , now time to work on the site content, but thats another story...
I just saw this post while searching around Digital Point. We do not offer domains for our clients we also don't register domains for them (unless there is a promotion where you get a free domain name). Have you opened a ticket about this? Next time you need help with ANYTHING just open a support ticket. - Prilep
no Prilep i didnt open any ticket about this, besides after understanding that its always better to get ur own domain, its okay now... I'm soon gonna register 3 more sites with you , your hosting seems to be very fast and stable as of now keep up the good work!
