Somebody has worked with domain forwarding (301)? How long it took for Google to index all the changes? Backlinks to accelerate the process work? But do the linking in the new domain or what is being redirected?
I am curious for this question as well. I just moved my old domain to new domain exactly 7 days ago, and so far, it indexed the main site today and main site only, no other pages. I'm wondering how long the entire process is, this is killing my organic traffic hahaha
movieguy, I like quick alternative includes the new field in some social bookmarking sites where the entire site is already indexed. This redirection is done in the week too, but I know it takes at least one to two weeks it starts to redirect all pages to new domain. What I fear is the age of the new field in relation to the position in the searches, it will maintain positions after this process.
I bought a site 2 days ago, the site was ranking no 1 for main keyword and getting good traffic. for some reasons known only by godaddy i wasnt able to use the newly bought domain so i made a forward with masking trough an old domain i had (just to have the site going) In two days the site droped from no1 to nowhere to be seen I guess is because of the redirect, but please correct me if i'm wrong.
i haven't experienced.. but if done it right google can index the new one in just a few days.. but the rankings, backlinks.. etc.. usually takes time..
Better Ping that old website and once the google will visit your website then it will mark the changes done in your website.
Treat the new pages brand new and needs to be build links from the start, 301 redirect usually not 100% transferring everything..
for a domain 301 to another domain, page to page. takes google very long to remove the old one and index the new one e.g. domainA to domainB, not subdomain to submdomain I had a change on early 2007 and even later 2008, both domain still there. on 2009 middle time, the old one that about gone from general search but if you use info:domain search, you still can see it. For whole experience, not that bad, all you need is just keep your old domain and make 301 for two years or more
