Just wondered what the best way would be to redirect traffic and some PR from an old domain to a new domain.

I have a blog on site A that is now closed and i want to redirect the traffic and PR to a new domain (site B).

I want to use the domain from site B.

Help or advice would be appreciated :)

I believe that Google has removed some websites from their search results because they were using a 302 redirect (temporary) rather then the preferred 301 (permanent) redirect.

Those websites were doing a little more than just a 302 redirect. There are legit reasons for it to be used, otherwise it would not exist.

Run live headers and go to any McClatchy news site. You will see they all 302 redirect. They are all PR6 or higher and the majority have #1 position for their respective city.

I'm going to focus on Charlotte.com. For at least a year, www.charlotte.com, 302'ed to www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/, only recenlty did it stop redirecting. I find it funny that www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte now 302s to charlotte.com. and www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/living 302s to charlotteobserver.com/157. Please note that charlotte.com and charlotteobserver.com are identical sites, and yet BOTH have PR7. Even worse, www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/living was a PR6, and 302 is not going to pass PR.

The point is.. this network of sites has been using 302 to death, and they've pwn3d the search engines. I doubt there is any major city that doesn't place top 6 for all 3.
