I have the option of buying a .co.uk domain name for a niche that gets about 7000 searches a day.

but at the same time have the other option of buying a .org domain name for a very similar niche that gets about 2000 searches a day.

It's either one or the other...Which one do I pick?

I think your choice should depend upon what you intend to do with the domain.

    i pick .org

.co.uk won't give you lot of type in traffic anyway

It depends on what you want to use the website for.
.co.uk should be used for a site that is somewhat related to the UK or if you expect most of your traffic from the UK
.org is meant for nonprofit organizations

I would go for .co.uk if you can afford it, else go for .org.

For me its clear, .co.uk is my choice for high traffic from specific location. Think traffic coming per day from uk only.

more search != more traffic... if the .org term is not competitive, you could get more

more search = more traffic if you can top. If not then go for less competitive, so that you can find some place. Do remember being beyond 40 in serps brings almost NIL traffic, no matter what number of searches or how much competition is.

"if you can top", no doubt..a big "IF"

Does .co.uk has more type in than a .org? Even in UK?

The man is willing to buy .co.uk domain. I thought his target market is UK.

co.uk is restricting ur visitor to uk.
i think a good percentage of people looking you in search result might skip you if they dont want a uk related site.
i would say stick to a .com or .biz or .org someithing more generic.

and how much does having kw in domain name matter now????????
its not too big a considration by major search engines.
    my2 cents.
