I would like to think I'm quite advanced with the area of web design and coding, but when it comes to domains, I'm a bit of a lightweight. Ok, I bought a Invision Power Board not to long ago, and decided to buy a hosting package from them at the same time. So my forum is under this domain ("example" is not my real domain, lol) http://example.invisionzone.com Now, at the same time I have a domain with 123-reg, which redirects to my "invisionzone" domain. But I want the two to go hand in hand, so instead of http://example.invisionzone.com/index.php?showforum=7 I want http://www.example.co.uk/index.php?showforum=7 - - - - How should I go about changing this? Thanks
hmm i didnt actually get what you wanted to do.. do you want to redirect the other domain to your example.co.uk domain?..then whats the problem?
Hmmmm, I'm gonna have to post real links, even tho the last time I did I got warned K, this is my forum - http://footballfanzone.invisionzone.com/ And this is my domain - football-fanzone.co.uk But when you visit the ".co.uk" domain, all is does is turn into the "invisionzone" domain. I want it to be football-fanzone.co.uk/showthread.php?t=402049#post3788792 not footballfanzone.invisionzone.com/showthread.php?t=402049#post3788792 ------ Any help?
grr i am still confused though i understood a little better than what you said last time.. i mean ok so the .co.uk u want it to be redirected to footballfanzone.invisionzone.com/showthread.php?t=402049#post3788792? or u want football-fanzone.co.uk/showthread.php?t=402049#post3788792 redirected to teh same as i posted aboice footballfanzone.invisionzone.com/showthread.php?t=402049#post3788792 What i suggest is why dont u just redirect the .co.uk domain to the footbal forum Home page site..instead of /index.php etc as that will automatically open the index.php..
No, the .co.uk is already redirecting to invisionzone. I don't want anyone to know about the "invisionzone" domain. I just want: www.football-fanzone.co.uk/index.php?showforum=12 www.football-fanzone.co.uk/index.php?showforum=8 www.football-fanzone.co.uk/index.php?act=UserCP&CODE=00 etc... Instead, all those links keep going back to footballfanzone.invisionzone.com
yeah...i think i know why..while redirecting domains..they wont work properly for forum threads..coz they are php dynamic pages..and i think that they are usually for static html forwards.. i am not sure about this though..
Just park the domain http://www.football-fanzone.co.uk over footballfanzone.invisionzone.com. It can be done from hosting control panel.
You need to park your domain, if you are using dedicated server just add cnames and other data. You can find more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_parking
Aha, those two have got it ^ I've gone to my cpanel, and then clicked "Parked Domains". When I try to enter "football-fanzone.co.uk" into the "Create a New Parked Domain" box, I get: No idea what it all means...any help? Do I need to do something in my domain cpanel?
Ok, I tried to make sense of that. I went to my Web Hosting cpanel and typed in: footballfanzone.invisionzone.com into my Network Tools box, which then gave me the DNS IP of that domain. I then went to my domain cpanel, and clicked "Manage DNS" This is the area I edited: I replaced the IP that was in the two boxes under "Content", with the IP had had received from "Network Tools" in my hosting cpanel. Now when I visit my domain, I get this: Check out the error Well that got me a little bit worried, but I still went back to my hosting cpanel, and clicked "Parked Domains". I again tried to add "football-fanzone.co.uk", but got the same error as last time: Hmmm, I've buggered up somewhere....any help?
