Domain Privacy Protection - Is it worth it.....

    Hello everyone,

I was just wondering what the benefits are, of adding "domain privacy protection" to each new domain registration? I currently have a few domains, and none of them have this added feature.

    Thank you,
    Gordon

You can get it for free at name.com, namecheap and others when you register domains. Probably not worth paying for it in most cases.

If you run such as a forum, it stops people ringing you up when you ban them, or knocking on your door :)

Don't think you can get it for some domain ext's such as .org.uk tho i could be wrong.

None really. Just use a PO Box & mobile number if you want some privacy. It's not worth the money IMO.

If you have only a couple of domains, then I say go ahead and get privacy protection. If you have a couple hundred domains, it might be too expensive and not worth the price. Privacy protection sometimes stops spam, and in my opinion is worth it if you can afford it.

It worth if you get it for free :p (an other registrar that offers free privacy protection is www.OrderDN.com)
Better safe yourself form spams ;)

I think this is not really necessary, because when your data appears when visitors make a "whois" on your website, then your website will be more trusted

I finally got a PO Box (My fee is $39.99 every three months). This is a much cheaper alternative.

If you have only few domains (less than 10), the Privacy Protection is cheaper alternative IMHO... :)

A lot of registrars offer it for free(my reseller included), I assume you're using godaddy.

If you need to pay for it, better going the PO box option (which by reading I see you have done) and using an old phone for the number. Best getting a PO box anyway, it comes in handy.

@vagrant, yes some tld's you can't hide whois information, .eu for example. But .com, .net, .org and .info all allow privacy protection.

It's better to have it if it is offered for free than having a public registration.

Lately, I've been seriously thinking about protecting my info on all my domains.

Its not just about privacy. There are reasons of security to protect yourself. If someone wanted to do bad things to you or your websites then the whois info is going to be very helpful.
Also, that is partially how Google ties all your sites together, so interlinking between different hosts can be found out.
