I have a one word domain name that is a few years old and never developed. I have started developing it in the last year. Let's assume the domain name is widget.com. When I type in widget in google, my domain does not come up on the first few pages of widget. As the domain name is widget.com, should my domain at least not show up on the first page of the listings for the word widget? thx
You'll need to have content if you expect to be in SERPs. Your best bet is to get working on it as soon as possible, it will take some time to get up to the top depending on your competition. You can view the competition by using alltitle:keyword here in google search, this will tell you how many sites have that keyword in their title. You can also use trends.google.com to see how much search volume it gets, just compare it to other keywords your already familiar with. Start building content on your site, create an XML sitemap, submit\register your site with Google Webmaster central and you'll be on your way.
I am experiencing a similar effect. Domains that would show if I searched for the domain only have been dropped from the index entirely. A search such as "domainname.com" or "www.domainname.com" or domainname.com turn up links from other sites, but neither the domain itself nor the site turn up in the search. Is Google reindexing?
I'm having this same exact problem as well - actually I'm so far back for my own site's name in a search that it's practically non existent.
