Ok, I own tons of domain names. Now, I have a question that I just ran into regarding which is better. Is it better to own: The names here are just examples. makemoney.net OR make-money.com How do hyphens fare in the big G? TIA!
It doesn't matter for search engine optimization, Google will treat them same afaik. But if we look at it from domainer perspective, a domain without a dash is better because it is more brandable, easier to remember and to write and you'll probably lose some visitors if you use the domain with dash, typo effect.
I believe I read or I was told by someone that hyphens are ignored by big man G. If that's the case, search engine will have no problem indexing your site or slow the process down. Now, when it comes to value, I really cant say much on the matter. I am sure someone with more experience in the market could answer that question for you. On the personal note, I am avoiding hyphen-names at all costs. In other word, I would stick with makemoney.net, but that's just me -Sel
If I am just trying to use the domain for getting traffic from targeted keywords, would it be best then to get the one with the hyphen with the .com rather than the .net?
Oh my mistake I didn't notice the domain without hypen is .NET. Well in both cases you'll lose some visitors to the main domain owner (domain without hyphen and with COM extension). But still I'd choose NET domain as I'm not really a fan of hyphenated domains and if we look at those examples, makemoney.net is easier to market than make-money.com to me. And I think you'd lose more visitors with make-money.com to normal .com than makemoney.net as your visitors may remember your NET extension but they may not notice the dash in com and just write makemoney.com.
Since long time ago Mat Cutts explained that hyphenation makes no difference at all. Browse his old-time archives
I Suggest for non-hyphenated domain names... Since it is easy for the users to remember and to search.
