Hey Peeps, I am asking weather having a good domain name will get you higher in google??For example, on http://www.gorkite.com I sell kite buggy wheels. Now I am thinking of making a new website for these called http://www.power-kite-buggy-wheels.com or something similar. If someone searched for buggy wheels, which domain do you think would be favoured by G?
in the eyes of your visisters i would choose the first cos the second one is long, has 3 dashes & looks spammy.
I have to disagree with that...keyword phrases or keywords itself ad a substantial weight to the SE results. I have seen this on numerous occasions. Of course the other SEO techniques have to implemented as well but all together combined...a keyword rich domain included does help significantly. @peeg, the second URL would work maybe for a little while but SE's are picking up on these type of spam domains and who knows maybe in the future your site will be penalized for this. http://www.gorkite.com/ would be best to keep or look at any other options that are still available. Keywords in domain names certainly help and not only for MSN but G as well...just don't over do it. Example 1: blue-widgets.com (this is OK) Example 2: blue-widgets-with-discount-for-the-area-of-florida.com (not Ok) Don't over do it, if you manage to come up with a domain that doesn't look spammy then you have a nice domain that adds that little extra for your site rankings.
kool thanks edz, I was just going by what my mate has done, with http://www.kids-ride-on-toys.co.uk He seems to think it is going to get him higher in the rankings so I thought i might was well do it as well. Going by what you said, do you think it is worth investing in such a domain??
Implementing a domain in such a manor your mate has done is my oppinion not the best way to go. Especially when you invest your time in this...let's face it, that's the most valuable commodity when it comes to it...the domain itself cost nothing more then the registration itself and that's peanuts. If his site get's good rankings and he's doing good with it for a while, it will be a great dissapointment when he's dropping in the serps because of a spammy domain like the name as he's clearly going to use or using. I wouldn't do it. However page names thus not the domain itself can be rewarding to use it as followed http://www.yourdomain.co.uk/kids-ride-on-toys.co.uk
Hey btw, what about sub domains?? I mean would http://power-kite-buggy-wheels.gorkite.com be better than http://www.power-kite-buggy-wheels.com? thanks
