Had a few quick questions before I decided to uptake a really big project site. I have been looking at a specific domain name for the site, but it does have a dash (-) seperating the two major keywords. The domain name is only a two word domain, but would this dash effect SE results or cause any other strange things to happen (because of the - character)?
Thanks, had to make sure. There is a little competition in what I am interested in and I didn't want to sacrifice rankings for a good domain with a dash as opposed to a decent domain with no dash.
The only real difference there is you won't get as much type in traffic. People will remember you are keywordkeyword.com not keyeword-keyword.com so you can lose traffic this way. Your rankings however won't be affected at all.
You are welcome, if anything having your main keywords in your domain can only help you in your search engine rankings. The dash will have no negative effect at all. Good luck with your project mate
Sometimes its nice to see the dash between words inside a domain on a SERP. It makes for easy reading of a domain name. Especially when those words get highlighted.
A dash is considered to be a space to a search engine. Whether that will change in the future, I'm not sure. Now as far as branding and typ-ins go, you'll see less (usually) than without dashes.
With considering dash in the domain name the main thing on which you shld concern is that is the domain is according to your theme if it suits your theme then you can go for the domain thats is having dash in between keywords Or you can searchout for the other domain extensions that is also a good option.
